What belt (part number if possible) and pulley combo do I need if I am eliminating the air system.
I'm working on a 1977 425.
Thanks!

air system as in air conditioning or A.I.R system as in emissions?

I'm sure he ment A.I.R. not A/C.
Would there be problems with pulley alignment like in the older 472/500's when pulling the smog pump?

I've been going through my '71 472 Fleetwood 75 this summer. I have both eliminated the A/C and the smog pump, after quite a bit of trial and error, along with numerous trips to NAPA, I have found the solutions to the belt issues.
To get rid of your smog pump on the 472 and 500 you will need a 35-5/8" belt, of course now you will be running directly from the crank to water pump, so no tensioner. I'd recommend adding a voltmeter to verify that your timing system is working, because the alt. is run off of the water pump. So if theres no charge, check your belts.
To take out the A/C pump, the power steering will be run directly off of the crank, I have the dual belt system and a 48" belt is just about right, a little tough to get on, but after a bit of break in, it should stretch enough to work well. A 48-1/2" would be ideal, but I havn't seen one yet.

And how did you get that belt one :?:
That the problme I've seen. without the smog pump, you have no tensioner, and therfore have to remove pulleys to get the belt's on. I think gutting the smog pump, or building som sort of tensioner would be a better idea.
Better still is finding crank and water pump pulleys from an engine with out the smpge pump. (like the '70 devilles ;) )

The '70 shop manual list the belt P/Ns fro non-A/C cars. I don't remember them now but could look it up. Be careful with the water pump though. Some water pumps leave little room for the belt(s) to fet between it and the crank when bypassing the A/C. (Others don't have room for the lower radiator hose and clamp :!: )
