Someone told me you could use a short oil filter out of Buick for clearance issues in my G-body. Does anyone know the oil filter number?

Fram PH3675. This is supposedly for a Buick 3.8 liter V6. I wouldn't use a Fram filter though. I'd cross reference this to something else.

Why not the Fram filter? Considering the lenght of time they've been around. And I've never heard bad things about them.

This oil filter concern has got me thinking. I have read enough about this filter not being any good or that filter that I have decided to go buy several filters myself and cut them up. Then I can make my own decsion on which I like.
It will be a couple of weeks before I do it but I will have info for any one you might want it, pictures and all.

Fram filters are among the worst design of any filter, even admitted by a Fram corporate guy. Here's some tech to chew on for a while

There is another one I'm looking for but I can't find it in my favorites.

Put me on the list of interested folk.
Has Consumer Reports (or other independant group) ever tested/compared oil filters?

I've been told by anybody at a respectable parts store for years, to never buy a fram filter. They are crappy designs, and they fall apart quickly. A few years ago, I saw a thing online comparing all the oil filters known, and fram was considered the worst. Most people recommend a Wix filter. They are what Carquest uses as their manufacture of filters, and I think the same goes for NAPA.
Looking at the design of both a fram and a Wix (I used to work for Carquest, and we had both sitting on the front counter to show why Fram sucks balls), I'd say the fram was poorly designed.
The only good thing about frams, really, is their non-slip grip on the bottom, for easy installing and removing.

I use NAPA Gold 1042 filter. It from a Escalade. Smaller diameter and shorter than stock 500 filter.

All,
You can't believe everything you read, but I saw a test on most popular filters some time ago. Fram was among the worst. AC Delco wasn't much better. The std Purolator was pretty darned good compared to the others, esp for a $3 piece. The Hastings was excellent too.
I also have a G body and found by accident that a NAPA Gold 91042 will work just fine and there is plenty of room. I think it fits a Nissan Sentra, but has worked great on my 500 swap.
