My engine is a nice junkyard jewel. What are your thoughts on initial startup.

Pull the distributer and spin the oil pump for at LEAST five minutes to make sure you get oil everywhere.

Change all fluids. Clean/rebuild the carb. New points/plugs.

If it's a whole car, stick and extra fuel filter inline.

And of course, drive the oil pump with a drill to get oil everywhere and test the pump.
Wouldn't be good to start it and have a bad oil pump.
