I have a '77 Eldorado with a Quadrajet that I had rebuilt, and I'm having a problem with it. When I come to a stop quickly, the car stalls out. The problem seems exacerbated when I have the AC on. The car rives great at all speeds, it's just at idle there seems to be a slight surging. All of the ignition compotents are in spec, the coil, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, etc. are fairly new. I have checked the idle with an inductive pickup, and it seems to be in spec with the service manual, around 675 rpm at idle. I also sometimes get a wiff of a sulphur smell at a stop. I have aftermarket Catalytic converters on it. I am by no means an expert at carburetors, any help would be greatly appreciated.

John,

I sometimes get that Sulphur smell after a Taco Bell. It's funny - It seems to be worse when the Car Stops as well.

Mark,

LOL.

John,
I'd suspect the float level might be a tad high. If the float is phenolic [sp?], and used, I'd replace it while you're in there. They often get heavy with age.

I would agree that the float level is probably too high... I had the same problem last year....
