Hello All,

I picked up 472/500 block and I want to build a mild hot rod ( 80 - 82 Malibu or Monte ).

I want to keep it low buck and kiss simple. Any suggestions ( help )?

This what I would like to do:

1, hot tank the block and ball hone the cylinder walls
2, I need a 500 crank
3, I would like to run a stock valve train ( I dont plan on reving it much over 5200 rpm )
4, Aftermarket intake
5, headers
6, Little hotter cam than stock.
7, Stock rods and pistons

How does this sound?

Thanks,

MAD

MAD,

In case you don't know;

You'll need 500 pistons as well, and they're different for 68-'73 heads [76cc] vs 74-'76 heads [120cc]. A .040" quench and 74-76 heads with very small dish oem 74-76 pistons will be a tad under 9-1. For the small chamber heads, as far as oem, you have choice of '70 only pistons for somewhere *around* 10-1, or 71-73 pistons for maybe 8.5-1. There are KB pistons for 10-1 with 76cc and maybe 9-1 with 120cc.

Mild cam with gentle lobes [non extreme energy, etc] should be fine with stock rockers, and 110 or so lbs on the seat springs, afaik.
