i recently put on new rubber valve cover gaskets and it blew the gasket out on the passenger side.. i also put on a chrome air cleaner and had to plug up the breather hole on the driver side ...would this have cuased the gasket to blow out???

Does the passenger side still have a breather hole? You must have at least one. The way the PCV works is the PCV hose is hooked to valve cover on one side (passenger) and the other side has a filtered vent (driver). When the engine sucks ait through the PCV it sucks out the blowby from the rings and some air from the vented valve cover on the drivers side. Unless both valve covers are plugged I doubt that you oil leak is a result of internal pressure. I suspect that you overtightened the valve cover bolts and actuall squished the gasket out from under the cover. Check some torque values for these bolts in you Chilton's and you will see that they are not supposed to be very tight at all, just snug.
