Hi,
I think I need a high torque starter. My 500 is in a '41 Cad and starts
OK when cold. But when up to temp, I try to start it sounds like the timimg is way too much advanced and only groans. I tried retarding timing ,but runs like crap. If starter is problem, what high torque one
fits? Chevy?
Thanks,
Tony

Make sure your cable is big enough . You have to use the real beefy stuff if your batt. is located far away from the starter . I use 2 batts. in my race car . 32* with no starting problems . You could wrap your starter in insulation in case its catching alot of heat . Are you sure the starter is good , just cuase it turns don,t mean its good , could be drawing to many amps . Good Luck

I've got the same problem when warm. I've got two cables running down to it and a welding cable for the ground cable. I've also considered two batteries.
On Cowboyseven forum - the mini starters were always talked up - but it was also noted that good results were obtained from placing heavier field windings in the starter.
Maybe your local rebuilder could hop-up your starter
