is the hei ditributor on a 425 the same on a 500ci???
i got a 500ci from a 72-73 el and it came with points and the 425 out of a 78 deville has the hei will it fit and bolt on????
im changing out the motors the 425 is starting to knock....a little.

The distrubuter will work as long as it is not off of a fuel injected engine. Peter

What additional work is needed for the HEI to work?
I assume there's wiring but other than that it's a drop in, right?

you should also use the pullies off the 425... if you use the stock ones the first belt will rub the dis. cap

I think the plugs will need to be gapped different too. If I remember correctly, I had to use the 1975 specs, since they were all HEI.

The wiring is a breeze. Go to a junkyard and find any HEI GM car, and get the wire that clips into the HEI distributor cap. You'll probably have to splice it to another wire of the same gauge, and splice it into the pink wire under the steering column.

The biggest problem I had was the oil pump gear kept turning when I tried the swap, but it all worked out just fine. I kept all of the stock pullies on my 73 Fleetwood 75.
