I was looking for a "high flow" 180 thermostat for my '77 Eldorado with a 425, as it get's really hot in AZ.
According to the Summit online catalog, the part numbers are the same for the Chevy and Cadillac thermostats, which I have heard is untrue.
Does anyone know of a part number or brand that sells a "high flow" thermostat for our big block Caddy's.
Thanks

You can use the Chevy stat in the Cad. Trick is to plug the hole in Cad block right under the thermostat. It takes a 1" cup plug.

Thanks for the reply, could you help me understand better how to do this modification. Do you have a picture or diagram?
Thanks

I have done this trick before and its pretty easy. When you pull your thermostat, look straight down into the block where the stat was. you will see a 1" hole in the block , this is where the bypass thats built into the factory stat sits. you will want to use a 1" freeze/cup plug. Use a socket and an extension that will just fit inside of the plug and tap till flush with the casting. Doung this will allow you to run the normal chevy style stat.
Also where in az are you located?

I think you should also drill a small hole in the plug to allow it to purge the air out of the system.

Just my 2 cents but I think you'll be better off using a stock temp thermo and installing a better water pump. When I bought my 76' Eldo in Florida and spent a few days with Potter in TN, we installed a NAPA water pump that's been working great here in Vegas @ + 110 degF.
Here's the NAPA part#: Duro Pro DPW1301290 $42.00
Here's a FlowKooler pump (note they also have a high flow thermo 180 or 195) for the Caddy):http://www.flowkooler.com/pump.php?pid=WP1778&pid0=TS332
Napa also has the correct 180 degree 'stat for the Cad.

The NAPPA water pump made the biggest and best improvement in my cars cooling system. I also use a NAPPA 180* thermostat...Now I would not use anything but those parts... I had overheating problems when idling with air on before the NAPPA pump...

You're looking for the pump with the disk on the impellor.

I bought the high-flow pump that Al sells on his site. Haven't had any problems with it yet, though I still want to do the 180 thermostat as well.
