Hey Guys,

I have started tearing down a 472 that I got from a junk yard. Before I go to the machine shop I want to have my game plan together. I have a question about the rods. If I am planning on about 500 hp, and mostly street driving with trips to the drag strip in mind, will the stock rods be strong enough, or should I upgrade to a forged rod?

I just finished reading the Big Inch Cad book. Has anyone used the BBC rods in their engine? They are a lot cheaper, but this seems like a lot of work to do to the crank to make this work. Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance,
Big John

I have only seen a couple of posts over the years where a stock rod failed and this was over 5000RPM. If you can keep your engine below this you will be fine.

But if you want to do it right Al at MTS has some new good Rod/Pistons deals available now that will ad about $600-$700 to your rebuild but you will have forge 7 inch rods and forge pistons.

All depends on your budget.

But if you do have the $$ that is a really good deal IMO
