I think you should find a steal on a 472 or 500 car

I had two 429's laying around, and threw them both away (Well, gave them to a friend who is a scrapper, he sometimes keeps blocks though).
The only part anybody wants, is the timing cover.

The steal is the whole car w/title for $300 delivered. runs and drives , plenty of power for the wifes car (1985 cutlass). I just wanted to know what the numbers are for this motor. The 500 is going in mine (1980 cutlass).

cutlover80,

The '65 trans is a switch pitch. Case fits only the '65-'67 caddys, but the innards can be swapped into a bop case.

Is there any type of adapter for this trans to a newer trans?

 Dude, IMHO you're pissing up a rope if you want to transplant one of those in anything. I think that engine family has roots dating back to the 40's. You're better off with a warmed over SBC. If you need it though, I have a good tc off of a '65. If you do buy the car, want to sell some parts? I'm looking for headlight trim and the whatnot...

I agree with Frankenstang, however instead of a SBC I would still vote on a 472 or 500 still, or at least a 425. That way you can couple it with the TH400 and actually find parts , have more performance for less, etc.

cutlover80,

Afaik, there's no adapter to allow the '65 trans to bolt to anything other than a '67 or older caddy engine.

Some time ago I heard rumor of one that would allow it to bolt to the '68 up engines, but afaik, it was just that. A rumor. If anyone knows that said adapter exists, please say it.

Juast the specs quoted here
http://100megsfree4.com/cadillac/cad1960/cad65.htm
# Displacement: 429 cubic inches
# Bore and stroke: 4.13 x 4.00 inches
# Compression ratio: 10.5:1
# Brake horsepower: 340 @ 4600 rpm

For more ask over here http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/classiccadillacchat
Their is a 64/65 group out there too, that guys above can get you there.

If the car is drivable, why not keep it going? Or sell it to someone witha 65 for restoration/parts? They could probably hook you up with a 425/472/500 as well.
