Hey all, name's Alex, got a 69 Coupe DeVille that just got out of the engine shop with a rebuilt 472. The idle on the car is so low that it rumbles and shakes. What gives, it was a professional rebuild, but I feel that the idle is just not right. I mean the car drives nice, shifts good, but at idle, I feel like its almost going to die. I don't know. Any ideas? Thanks!

PS Here's a pic of my coupe (and yes, its got air suspension):

Oh, and if anyone knows a good mechanic for 60's Cadis in Arizona, please let me know. It is apparent that a lot of people have no clue about this car. Thanks!

It's hard to diagnois over the air waves but, tune up things to ck would be the same for the Cad as any other GM cars, and for that matter all cars of this era. I would ck for vacuum leaks as this could cause the symptoms. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake and carb to find one. I like using a nozzle so the spray is only hitting a small area. Good place to start.

Great, thanks for the tip. This is my first "older" vehicle, so I am still stumbling about. The previous owner told me that the car is prone to vacuum leaks, so, I assume its got something to do with it? Also, the vehicle has (What appears to be) a very small edelbrock chrome top filter element. Is it supposed to be a big one (I don't know, it just looks tiny?)?

Bigger is better (more airflow) The original was a 14", but it is hard to make a OE 14" fit because of the hood clearance. It has to clear the compressor but not be too tall for the hood. This is probably why whoever put a smaller one on there. I got a K&N 14 incher to fit under mine, and Al sells drop bases you can use I believe.

Alex, tell us more about your air suspension. Did you do it yourself? Drop spindles??
