Hello, I´m new here and needing help.
I´m installing a 500 in my 47 Chevy coupe. Anyone here did it? Tips please? I also want to know wich other (if so) HEI distributor will fit in the 500, I mean, must spin counterclockwise, right? An Oldsmobile HEI will fit or is a matter of "Cadillac only"?.
Thanks a lot.

 I'm pretty certain that HEI distributor is Caddy specific. Howerver, the cap, coil, and stuff are the same as any other GM product. Good luck with the project, you should be happy with that motor!

Sisn't some one figure out how to modify a GM dist (chevy? olds?) to work in a Caddy?
The houshing needed some machining though. The parts that touch the block were flattend and a sleeve mad to match the Caddy needs.
And there are after market dists for the Caddy.

Just get a distributer form a late 70's Caddy as has already been said, and maybe throw a Proform or MSD kit at it. MSD makes a complete replacement distributer that has to be ran through a box that fits, but thats not worht the cash IMHO. Accel also makes a replacement distributer too.

I've got a working HEI Cad dist. that needs a cap (you would change anyway) that you can have for $25.00 plus $10.00 shipping. Won't last long, let me know. Marty

Do you have any pics of your swap into the 47 coupe? I am considering a Cadillac for my 51 Chevy pickup and I have not been able to find anyone doing this swap. I figure steering would be the biggest problem besides engine mounts.

Thanks a lot for the offer Nashalac, but I´m in south america, so the shipping from there to here could be a little expensive. Maybe if I don´t find any here.....
And to LB181: I haven´t started the swap yet. As soon as I get a distributor I will start (I´m waiting cause don´t know how good the 500 is working) and will post some pics. I have a 350 actually in the 47 fitting very well but a little too close tho the power stering box so I expect some problems there and against the power brake unit, but I think it will fit perfectly between radiator and cowl, and side to side.
