Hello to all.
My name is Mick I live over in England in a city called Norwich. I am new to this forum and look forward to getting hold of some of the wide ranging knowledge you all have. I was wondering if any one has ever put a 472/500 into one of the X frame Chevy’s. I am starting my first big project in that I have just bought a 1959 4 door flat top Impala and will be fitting a 472 + th400 gearbox into. I am also building (in slow time) a performance 500. The first thing I have found is the engine mount's are not near any hard point on the car so will need to make a support extending from the cross member, I have also extended the gearbox cross member backwards to meet the mounting point on the gearbox. (I love this type of work) The engine fits well apart from that and with all the other bits I intend doing, hopefully this will be a really nice car and one of a kind over here in the UK when next years show season starts. I have attached a picture (hopefully) of my car taken a few days after getting hold of it.

Hey man, welcome to the forums. That is a great looking Impala!

I'm not real sure of the details about it, but Al sells a "universal" type motor mounting kit that will let you put these motors in all types of vehicles. You may want to ask him about it.

Hope your project goes well. 8)

Welcome! My father owned a '59 many years ago. It had a 283 with two 4-barrel carbs. Viewed from the rear it almost looks like it's staring at you. The young lad seems to be as pleased with it as you. Looking forward to reading about your progress with the new project.

Hello Rick,

I'm in Seattle where I installed a built 500 in a 78 Seville which had a small block Olds from the factory in it.
I cleaned off the crossmember and made adapters from the steel stock Al at MTS sent me. What I did was make 6 in wide plates long enough to bolt to the cross member with holes drilled in them to accept Eldorado mounts which simply bolt to the plates. I welded side walls to the plates to give them even more strength and they look like a ] . I had to drop the coils out of the cross member so I could get up inside to weld a plate in with nuts welded to it so I could install cap screws through the plate, crossmember and into the plate with nuts on the inside of the crossmember.
My engine is slid all the way back and can't be raised when removing untill it is slid foreward first and the set up I made does that because the plate and mount slide foreward with engine after removing the cap screws. Works slick.
I hope this helps.
Sounds like you plan to kick some Morris Minor butt with your torque monster Ha ha ha ha !!!

Good Luck
