i tried to find my answere in topics already posted but had no such luck. so i just have a real basic question. which is better goin with electronic ignition with a msd billet distributor with a ignition box or just slappin a hei distributor on there? i still got points n am tired of constantly messin with it. an yes power is a factor. might not have the power yet but will get it eventually. thanks for your help. oh ya its goin on a 68 472, if that makes much of a difference.

I would just go for a Caddy HEI, and maybe throw the MSD HEI Hop-up kit on there. How's taht for a compromise?

The gain you will get with the MSD is way too small for the amount of cash you will have to spend for it.

T.O. is correct. The HEI is easy to find and easy to service. When it becomes time to improve the ignition again, simply use a MSD control module and coil.

ok well i thank im gonna go with the msd. mainly cause i can get a really good deal on a 6al box. so i just have to pick up a distributor. which i was gonna have to do anyways cause mine is well needin replaced. so i would rather spend the extra money on a msd pro billet distributor than just an hei. cause im also goin for looks at car shows, which is one of my two main goals. look good n run good. if anyone has any experience with an msd system id like to hear your take on this. an any tips that you might have for me. or if anyone has somethin to say im always eager to hear someones opinion cause thats really bout the only way to learn somethin. thanks guys.

Hey Chappie, I currently run a MSD6 in my 75 CDV...I have been real happy with it, instant start up and smooth cruising :D with a stock HEI with a spring kit and a fresh vacuum advance. You can get the stock HEI looking real good if you have the body polished up,put a new cap,vac advance etc on it and they look great!!! Much cheaper too!!

 I'm running a Mallory ignition on my Mustang race car.(yeah, it's not Caddy powered but does have a BB in it) I notice a marked improvement in starting and running than when it had ponits. I figure most of the performance ignitions are about the same, IMHO.(at least at the lower-end streetable set-ups) I do however think a warmed over HEI system works nearly as good if not as good as a sparker box. Cheaper too. If you need a points distributor for a 472 to convert, I have one I'll let go for way cheap...
