Can anybody suggest a possible solution to this queary. I have a 425 in my 72 Skylark which still has the a/c pump still attached to it even though the car does not have a/c. I would like to remove it but this would result in the drive belt to the power steering pump hitting the water pump. Is there a any solution out there.
Please help

Ar you sure it wil hit the water pump? I run my 472 that way, and just put a 425 into a car that way. Reused a 472 water pump on that one.
If you are sure the belt won't fit, get a water pump for a 472 with double grove P/S and A/C pulleys. It has a little more room.

 same here. I'm not running a AC compressor on the 472 I just installed either. It looked like it would hit but didn't. You just need to get a shorter belt. IMHO, I only installed 1 belt instead of 2. I figured since all I was running was the PS pump, the load wouldn't be as great without AC.

 I used Dayco belt # 15480. Hope that helps.

Big thanks to all your responses on this posting
Looks as if its the 472 water pump route's for me. However when I did a search on the web It came up with various part numbers. As I know very little about the engines history I am not sure about its age or original vehicle it came out of. All I know it has been seriously neglected with syrup for oil but its a Caddy and its still strong as a railroad train ! Is there an engine number I could decode to get this information and where on the engine it may be stamped. Or is there any other way to ID the engine ??. Anybody out there have a new pump for sale when I have ID the engine ?? Naturally freight may be a little expensive to the UK !
Many thanks

Don't worry. to be safe you can get the pump for a double grove system from Al.
http://users.elknet.net/mts/page9.html part #CS08.
Or ask the parts place for a water pump for a 1968-1972 cadillac car. Any will do, deVille, Fleetwood, Eldorado. Either engine will do too, same pump for a 472 or a 500.
But any 472/500 pump should work for this. It'll bolt on just fine. Same gasket too.
Be careful tightening the smallest bolts on the pump. They only thread into the front cover and strip real easy.
