It said that a 472/500 with an aluminum intake weighs 40lbs or more than a SBC. Is the SBC stock with iron heads? Has anyone confirmed and actually weighed it or is it an estimate between the two?
Im trying to figure out which springs to run up front for best weight transfer(Drag) on my 81 malibu with some weight reduction already done up front. I had orginally planed to run a 6 cyl spring with my SBC but now im unsure.
Thanks,
bobo

i remember someone did weigh one a few different ways, with heads, no heads, stock vs edlebrock intake.... you get the idea. do a search for it, either on this sight or http://www.cowboyseven.us/forum/
it was a while ago and dont remember the details

I haven't weighed one but the 500 that I bought to build up tried to fold up the cheap Canadian Tire engine stand I put it on . I had to put a support at the front of the motor.

The 6 cylinder springs will be fine with a 500 in there. I know of a Lemans (g-body, same as malibu) that went 1.40 60' times with stock 6 cylinder springs and cheapo stock replacement shocks. Sway bar removed & rear springs bagged. Nothing else.
Good luck!

That stand was probably ment for a small block. So a BB Chevy or For would have had the same problem.
Here's (http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/engineweights.html) a list with a bunch of engine weights.
It has 2 for the 500, 595 or 625 lbs.
BB Chevy (454) at 675lbs with the same footnote as the 595lbs Cadillac entry.
I see a late 60s SB Chevy at 575lbs

Thanks that was exactly the answer i was looking for!! And like i said before theres still some weight removal up front anyways, no AC/Heater,Manual steering and brakes, Tubular core support, and a set of weld skinnies.
