hi all, i am planning to swap a 472 into my 54 bel air. its got the original 235 6cyl and powerglide in it now. i just picked up a 472(i believe its a 1972) and turbo 400 trans. i was wondering if anyone had any info on this swap. i know i need a rear sump pan for crossmember clearance but other than that, im not sure. are the mounts on the cad motor set up similar to a sbc or a bbc? any info would be greatly appreciated.
thank you very much,
todd. b

I'm in process of putting a 425 into a 52 Chevy sedan. Car also has a 76 Camaro subframe in it which makes it a bit easier. It also gave me moden suspension, brakes and steering.

Chevellac,

The motor mounts on the frame are similar but not exact. The mounting points on the cad engine are darn near the front of the engine instead if like 2/3 on a regular chev engine. Go to this site and check out what this guy did to get from one to the other. Clay

i'm putting a 500 in a 53 chevy sedan. i'll take some pics tommorow.

i'm using a must II crossmember and i'm not done but here are some issues i have run into.

1 exhaust-with the MII crossmember there is no room for headers, by trimming the lower firewall (both sides but for different reasons) braces stock exhaust will work

2 tranny i'm using the stock long tail 400 and by using a walton fabrication tranny mount it works

3 cooling you'll need to use electric fans in front of the radiator as the crank pulley just clears the rad mount. i haven't reinstalled the front clip but if the rad is to close i think you can mount it in front of the rad support to gain a bit more room.

4 oil pan you may be able to use a mid sump but i have a rear sump which fits with room to spare with the MII Xmember.

5 engine mounts i'm custom making mine should come out similar to the ones in the pic (which i borrowed from rod and custom mag or custom rodder mag) and i'll use the stock rubber mounts
