my engine is what I think to be a 68 472. it came with an AIR pump mounted on the front. I see no signs of any place where it was plumbed into the heads or manifolds. I do see small holes in each exhaust port though. both heads have a flat plug on both ends of what appears to be some galley in the casting. anyone have pics of what this system looked like or some insight?
I have no pictures, however it sounds like someone removed most of your system and was using the pump as an idler for the accessory drive belt.

Somebody posted some engine picture on CB7 recently, and at least one of them had the A.I.R system intact.
Unfortunately I cannot find it now :(
Anyone remeber the thread or poster?

I can't remember the thread either, but I saved the picture. That is, if this is the one STDog was referring to.

That may have been it. The one in the back right liooks to have it all.
I guess I need to borrow a shop manual for a year that had it. I know somone with the '68 manual. Post scans of the description. Probably find an engine pictue in it too.
The description may not help much though. I know the description of T.C.S. in the '70 manual doesn/'t explain the "why" that I'd like. (TCS only allowed vacuum advance in 3rd gear. Not a clue as to what good that would do. Kind of like what good does ported vacuum do?)

My shop manual ('76) has some pictures and descriptions. I'll do some scans or whatever as soon as I can, but I just got my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday and the painkillers, pain, and weakness really beats you up!

Maybe these will help. The 1st one; in blue is the AIR tube, green is the AIR check valve, light blue is the rubber hose from the AIR pump to the check valve & orange is where the tube fits into the heads.

OK, so you have a '68 manual handy :)
The first one looks to me like a page from the GM shop manual anyway
The second one is GM as well, but I cannot make out the year. :(
Noti8ce the 68-69 and the 71-73 lable on the upper picture. That's why there is nothing on the system in the '70 manual.
I'm curious, so you have/had a '68 prior to the '76?
