Phil,
166 on a caddy, iirc. Afaik, a chevy starter for a 168t chev flexplate/flywheel fits fine.
You could ask over at CB7 to be sure. There are several threads on starters there.

The rule I was told, is to get one that fits a 153 tooth chevy, and make sure it's inline.
The flexplates aren't the same overall diameter, so you can have fewer teeth without any binding issues.
Wow, that sounds like something you'd hear at a redneck christmas party. ;)

Cadipacer/Modly,
Iwas wrong about the chevy starter [tooth count]. I searched over at CB7, and guys there are using the chev starter for the 153t chev.

MODLEY,,, thanks,, thats what I heard too,, Thanks Dave!,, this is what makes one think,,, before jumping into these somewhat simple projects,
after all, the Pacer project was not a easy task it took alot of thought and measuring and home work before it was a GO,, same with the starter.
So my parts source has the idea of the 153 teeth.
Its hard for me to type the word " chevy"?

cadipacer,
Several of the fellows over at CB7 are using the sbc mini starters with good results. Some use el-cheapo versions, and some use more pricey versions.
Some shimming to adjust the gear tooth mesh is required, afaik.

Just as a reference, I'm personally using the Summit mini, part number SUM-820323, and it works like a charm. It's a cheaper starter, but it's very lightweight (nice for installing), and can be moved into 5 positions, for header clearance, etc. It also seems to start the engine alot nicer than the stocker did, and with less power.
If you want a real nice starter, I'd go with one of the CSR's, summit part number CSI-100P I believe. You may want to double check on that. It's a bit more money, but it looks like it could power a car itself... maybe not a cadillac, but it could move something.

Not sure if you ordered or not, but the summit starters are now $6 cheaper in price, and offer $15 summit bucks (basically, a gift card for the next time you order stuff) for getting it.
