I was going to insyall my intake manifold on the 513 today, but I'm confused about some ports on the intake side of the heads. The manifold covers the intake ports and a lower set of openings for heating the manifold, but there's another larger opening connected to the exhaust port above the lower, smaller one whicj the manifold doesn't cover. So, what covers the upper opening?

Nothing - it is a blind hole

Its designed (according to me) to frustratingly catch and hold all the water that you use to clean your engine. But Nashalac is correct... just a blind hole. No worries.

Thanks for the responses. Is there any reason I should not cap the holes to prevent them from collecting crud? I'm thinking just a sheet metal part, with small vent hole, siliconed in place, and painted with the rest of the block.

I just pour mine full of"water rock" or left over hardblock, usually at the same time I fill the exhuast heat crossovers. RED

On all the Cadies I'v pulled, the mice have louded it up with seedes. Stick the airgun down their to clean, get a bunch of crao in my face. And allwais one little peacse left to fall in the motor when the heads come off. Its those little surprises I like.
