Anyone running a megasquirt on a big Caddy ? I am planning to go this route when I get to replacing the 472 in my car with the 500 that is sitting in the garage . Any problems ? How's it working? :?:

I'm running megasquirt on my 77 DeVille with a 425.
I found a complete 425 efi setup on ebay, pretty cheap. (efi intake, tb, wiring, fuelrails, electric fuel pumps & injectors) Old injectors were not a good idea, so I bought new ones at ebay.

The throttle position sensor had to be replaced, but the rest of the hardware is still original. With "easytherm" the stock temp sensors can be re-used.

Took a week to assemble the MS, and another to fix the wiring. The MS box can now be found at passengers left foot. The biggest problem I had was the arm from the throttle pedal hit the fuel rail.
Tuning took a month....

With low impedance injectors I used a flyback board, instead of in line resistors, and it works just well.

The engine now runs stronger, especially at low rpm, idles perfectly (wee) and cold starts are a snap! Fuel economy didn't improve at all  Maybe it will with a WBO2 setup.

Next season I will have a MS-II with electronic ignition from a 368 and that WBO2 sensor.

76Eldo_convertFI was the one who inspired me! Thanks!

I have a page here. You can at least look at the pictures and click the blue links. http://home.swipnet.se/emod/Cad/insprut.html

Good for you Pete. When done, we'll want to pick your brain and maybe rob all your MS settings. I still want to do it to my Eldo. :)

Your website, nice but I don't read Swedish. :?

Hey Peter,

What kind of mileage are you getting? Have any pics of the setup? I swapped the original EFI system over onto my 78 Fleetwood and I also had the problem with the throttle. The fix for that is to take a gas pedal assembly and cable from an 80's full size cadillac. Then you adjust the size of the cable for your throttlebody. How did you get by with the original throttle bracket that was hitting the fuel rail? I switched mine over to a cable setup and it worked great. - Justin

Fleetwood472,

I had to cut the gas pedal arm, and attach a home built custom one.
See picture here:

(The little thing to the right is the bracket for the TH700 TV-wire)
If someone out there have a gas pedal assembly and cable from an 80's full size cadillac, I'd like to have it!

I have no good pics yet, I hope I can take some tomorrow..

I get about 15 mpg on gas, with a 400 trans and 2,28:1 in the rear, and blocked off EGR. On highway I get near 19 mpg. I haven't checked how much it wants since I swapped the TH400 to a TH700 and converted to ethanol and enabled egr.

76Eldo_convertFI,
uuh, isn't your eldo converted already?

I wish  , it's still got all the factory EFI stuff. 15 mpg, I only get 10 out of the Eldo around town. Maybe 14 on the highway if I stay at 55 mph.

Peter,
Man I wish I could read Swedish. Or one of the online translators would work.
Loing over your site, there's some great info.

I really like the page on factor cam spec. Great job getting that all together in one place.
Would you mind if I posted it here and at CB7?

Ever though of making and engish version of the site?

Sorry to get off topic.

Wow, thanks guys! :D :D

No, I have no plans for an english version, just too much work!
Thers is no swedish translator online yet, but I'm waiting for one.

Until then you can watch the pictures and ask me.. 8)

The cam specs (how did you find it??) was written by Lynn Nicholls. I just copied it from the old 500cid.com message board. I don't know how to get in contact with Lynn..

Peter,

You have a 700r4 in it? With 2:28 gears? When do you kick in the overdrive? - Justin

Yes.
Overdrive at about 55 mph. Gives me 1040 r/min on the engine.
Saves fuel (don't know how much yet, but it sure does) ,and runs very silent. The 425 is powerful enough, but I will install a 500 anyway.

A drawback is, the AC doesn't cool much at these low RPM's..

How did you hook it up inside? Did you wire it up to a switch? Do you have any pictures? Thanks - Justin

No manual switches, just a normal vacuum switch (cutting the lockup current at heavy acceleration). The trans locks up in 3rd and 4th gear. It's a 1985 model.

76Eldo_convertFI,
What's wrong with your MS then?

I know my way around a web site (as long as it not heavily scripted with Active server stuff).
So I pulled a few sub directories off the link you posted and looked at every thing there.
http://home.swipnet.se/emod/Cad/ And then followed links. Any thing in english sort of jumped out at me :P

I tried a few translators and none would even try yesterday, not sure why though.
Looks like a lot of good info. If I can just manage to learn swedish

FW Lynn ocasionaly shows up on CB7 (http://www.cowboyseven.us/forum/) and Modified Cadillac (http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/forum/). He might still hit the CLC forums too.

Thanks for the replies . I have the megasquirt computer about 3/4 finished other than that this project is on the backburner for a while . I was glad to here about the cold startups . My 472 is a pain till it warms up .
