I scored a set of 7 inch olds rods a while back. Im using the 120cc chamber heads, and planning to put 2.11, 1.77 valves also. which pistons can i use with these rods that are not over kill, and will give me around 9.1?

502 Chevy Pistons for 540 ci.

Big Block Chevy Pistons have been used. I'm not sure of the correct oversize.

Chev 502 from the KB Piston site is KB-173 (3cc flattop), KB-174 (12cc solid dome), KB-175 (19cc dish).
Bore starts at 4.47" with comp ht of 1.645" an pin size of 0.9898.
Open chamber head yields approx 9.0 stat comp with KB-173.
6.998" Olds rod will fit with zero deck of 10.795".

Check out the head gasket choices at that bore size.

Other pistons with ch of 1.645 are KB-200, KB-287, KB-780 (Forged). These will have bore of 4.35", pin of .990

Hey '78-
I have the KB200's in the low compression 7" rod(8.6:1with 126cc heads)engine I have for the "T". They are .100" oversize 454 chev flat tops.
Small ends of the rods need to be opened up about .009" to use the chev pin.
Zero deck the block and it'll have good quench-with a decent cam it'll run great with no pinging on pump gas.

Are there any bigger ones, if my block does not clean up at .010 over. are there .090 over big chevy?

1978ScottsDale,

The 454's std bore is 4.250". Iirc, KB has them in .060", .070" and .100".
If you want a forging, you'll probably find larger than 60s, but they'll be pricey. J-E, SRP, Ross, etc.
