I'm looking to buy a Quadra Jet for my new rebuilt 1976 Caddy 500.

I'm looking at the JET Stage II Carb offered by Summit racing for $359.

Instant throttle response with more horsepower.
JET Streetmaster Quadrajet Stage 2 carbs have all of the features of the Stage 1 versions, plus a fully recalibrated idle, off-idle, accelerator pump, and high speed circuits to match modifications done to the engine. With the Stage 2 carbs, you can expect improved idle quality, instant throttle response, and maximum torque and horsepower for street/strip vehicles, tow vehicles, RVs, and watercraft with modified engines.

Will this Jet Stage II Q-jet carb supprot a #10 Series Grind Cam in 1-ton 4wd. { Stock Heads, .030 over, Stock Compression }

Anyone selling a better tuned reman Q-jet carb? I'm not looking for High RPM racing. I read up on the Carb Shop, But I'm not excited about sending my stock carb out to CANADA for an overhaul.

Any recomendations or past experience, Please let me know...

Thanks,
Michael

No Quadrajet expert here - Have heard good things about Jet - I'd call and talk to them about your intended useage and get their idea of what's best.

I would just rebuild the one that is on there now. The 500 had an 800cfm and works fine. Edelbrock used to have the jet kit for about $100 and then you can change it as you need to.

If you don't have a stock carb, I got one that you can rebuild.

Isn't the Carb Shop in California? That's the one I dealt with anyways...

They will want all the specs on your engine AND vehicle AND intended useage. The more honest information you can give them, the happier you will be with YOUR carb when it is returned to you.

Good people......

Do you have a phone # for them.

I'm building this for my tow rig and have to many other projects to play and learn as I go with the Carb. I need turn key service on the carb.

After break in I will be towing out of state, and would prefer to have it right.

Whitfimb, Check out the address again. Its Ontario California not Ontario Canada. They rebuilt mine and I was pleased with the carb, service, and price.

Sean Murphy is very good and specializes in Q-jets, I think it is SMP. He is in the back of the hotrod magezines and was also in an article in Carcraft or ??

Sean used to work at Jet (still right down the street from them). Website here: http://www.smicarburetor.com./products/?sfID1=28&sfID2=9

He's a very easy guy to work with; he checked out my Caddy a few years ago after I got it, and was able to get it happier without too much hassle. Google his name a bit, he has been in a lot of articles.

I have one on my 1973 Corvette 454 which came to me with a crappy non-stock carb...and would consider one for my CDV (see sig below) if my stock carb was not so good.

Why? Because you get a later carb to start with - one that has a APT (adjustable part throttle) access port (unscrew it by a hex recess) at the front top of the carb. This allows you to use a small Phillips-head screw driver and run a screw up (or down) to set the lowest position of your primary metering rods. This lets you tune for best air/fuel ratio at cruise - as well as what most folks do with jet and secondary metering rod changes. This made a huge difference on my 'Vette as I dialed it in. I also used a simple air/fuel guage with an 02 sensor screwed into my exhaust (had a shop weld a bung into the pipe near the collector).

Just chiming in with a huge plug for Jet (www.jetchip.com)

top notch stuff. I've had them do four of my carbs and they are spot-on. A few of them I tried fine tuning them on a gas analyzer (sniffer) and I couldn't improve on it.

I'm a Qjet lover and I've built a dozen or more, but if I want it done right the first time, I just send it to Jet. Not only does it come back performing right, it comes back blasted, replated and looking like a museum piece.

whitfimb,

I sent my original '75 Eldorado 500 Q-Jet to the Carb Shop for a rebuild. They set it up for a 4x4 application. I've been pleased with the results so far.

I got a Summit remanufactured carb and couldn't dial it in like the Jet. Before that, I had tried an Advance Auto Parts remanufactured carb - which was painted nice, but had bent parts, visibly worn screw heads, and poured gas everywhere on the motor...all this on the 'Vette as I finally settled on the excellent JET Stage II that is sttill there...

From the description
HOLLEY II # 64-7064

Not bad since there's no core charge.
Autozone wants $173 + $35 core

However, good luck. I bought a Holley rebuild for my car. ('70 CDV)
1st one had a vacuum leak and had to be replaced (under warranty).
The replacement never would tune right. I always though it was the engine, but after rebuilding that, I tried a different carb (a friends spare from a '68 CDV) after putting a parts store kit in it. Finally a working carb.

So, I wish you luck, but I'll never buy another Holley rebuilt Q-Jet.

had my carb rebuilt by jet, they asked all the info on the motor and built it to how my motor was built and what i planned to do with it.

I'd take Ted's advice ( $20 or so) or do what I did, found a spanking brand new Holley Reman QJet sitting on a car at a junk yard.

Here people put brand new carbs on cars as a last ditch effort to make them pass emissions before giving up and junking them.

Just depends on where you live and how tough the emission testing is.
