Ok, I'm stumped. About 3 months ago, I installed the Pertonix Kit in my hearse and it ran fine, after adjusting the shaft play. I could tell the motor idled i little better instantly, and have noticed a little better gas mileage and power since then. I also insalled a Pertronix Coil at the same time. I rewired the wires from the starter, including the removing the balllast wire, all with 12 gauge auto wire. (The old wires were original a when I was changing the oil, I bumped one with my hand and it broke in half)
Now it is a voodoo cermony to get the thing started when cold. If I crank it she will flood. It seems I have to let the motor crank over about 1/2 a rotation, and then release the key and when I realse the key she might fir eup if I feather the gas at the exact right precise moment... in other words the ignition will go in run but not start mode... I am going to try and persuade my nighboor to crank it for me while I check it out with a voltage tester, but it still seems a bit strange to me... the car ran fine for three weeks since I did all of the wiring and now it it's like this every morning.. Once it heats up it's fine. I have checked for a bad ground but have found nothing... Any Ideas?

I'd check to make sure a wire at the solenoid is still atatched. I think this is where the ign system gets power in the start position.
